THE FINAL FLÂNERIE EMAIL!
Substack's #61 Rising in Philosophy will no longer be delivered to your inbox.
Friends:
Having established a new business, I’ve also established a new Substack: AreWeLost.com will now host all Travel related content.
FlanneryFoster.com will focus entirely on my other interests & expertise, like photography, philosophy, politics, prose, poetry and music.
My challenge is determining where to host the content that overlaps. Are We Lost? is a business that sells travel. Probably not the best place for pieces like Kidnapped in Cairo or photos of informal funerals in India. My gut is telling me to keep my travelogue on my personal page while maintaining a brand voice on the other.
To achieve consistency, I’ve decided to focus on the podcast format moving forward. I’m too much of a perfectionist to rely on written posts, especially of late. I’ve been experiencing some internal conflict due to an external source, but I’m almost myself again. As psychologist D.W. Winnicott says, “Artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide.” I had been working towards an integrated platform for all of my projects, but, now, a separation of church and state serves me best.
As the headline suggests, I’ll no longer be sending monthly emails from FlanneryFoster.com, though I WILL be posting regularly. Visit whenever you’d like. I recommend the Substack app, so you can check out the Notes and Chat features. I agree with John Cleese:
Three things I like about Substack:
1. You meet a better class of person.
2. It’s not run by the greediest man in the world.
3. I’ve forgotten what this one is
Paid subscribers are comped for a year at AreWeLost.com, where I WILL be sending updates from, moving forward. Consider this the soft launch. Take a peek. I’ll send a more thorough announcement within four weeks. In short, I’ve made the leap from Travel Agent to Travel Agency. IATAN, the accrediting authority, has my paperwork in hand. Within 4-6 weeks I’ll be able to book commercial flights for you. If you fly private, I can handle that now, along with hotels and all other aspects of your itinerary, including crafting it.
Thank you for your support and your feedback.
Be Well,
Flan
