need less, live more
I closed my business on my 45th birthday after 16 years and 10 locations, to visit all 330 Countries, Colonies, Territories, Exclaves & Enclaves. 150, so far...180 to go.
45 years of acquisition has been reduced to a 5x8’ storage unit that I’m STILL seeking to downsize further.
All I intend to keep are my personal archive and appreciating artworks. They will exist in the public realm rather than storage soon. It’s a white elephant scenario. I don’t like to own anything I can’t afford to lose. The weight of caring for things that are important to posterity is burdensome.
I held my own living estate sale about 18 months ago. I can’t recommend it enough. It was a blessing to meet the recipients of the objects I’ve collected and, for a time, cherished. Even better: I got paid! I’ve been living off the sale of my possessions for almost 2 years.
Every time I travel and return to my storage unit, I realize how little I need those clothes, books, bracelets, what have you. My happiness isn’t attached to tangible objects…quite the opposite. The freedom I feel as my carry on gets lighter, as I sell another item of value on eBay or gift a friend my crystals, is unmatched.
I encourage you to examine what you think you need…the list is really small. In fact, I’ve itemized everything I need right here.
